Handmade Watch Straps – some new leather!

It’s always a difficult process finding new skins or leathers for my watch straps and it takes many hours, weeks and months of research to determine the best textures and colours for my straps. I’ve had a lot of requests in 2018 for French Calfskin and cowhide which I have finally sourced.

The leathers that I have sourced are both full-grain vegetable-tanned leather. They have no protective coating which means they are more receptive to staining. Now you may question why that would make a good watch strap and the simple answer is that it develops a beautiful patina over time and that’s incredibly important with a watch strap. The most beautiful straps are those that have been worn in and have character. Much like when watch aficionados send a watch for service, you don’t want the history polished out of the watch. Every scratch is a story! Vintage style straps are very popular with the increase in vintage watches being bought and sold at present and these leathers suit those perfectly.

In addition to these new leathers I have also sourced new threads which I feel compliment the colours perfectly as seen below. There are many combinations that I think work well and they’re a joy to work with. I’ll start updating them to the site soon but if in the meantime you want to just email me to order your watch strap please just contact me.

Here are a few sneak peak shots some of the new straps and colours!
